Tomatsu Haruka’s 2nd Photobook – High Touch!
As promised, a quick look through Tomacchan’s second photobook release. It’s been just 4 months since the release of HARUKAs so it’s no wonder people grumble about over-exposure on a Hirano Aya level. Anyway, I’ve got two copies of High Touch in this time around so there’s a 33.3% chance I may pull one of them apart to scan (but don’t hold your breath). Nobody did the deed for the first PB as far as I remember…
After a few hours looking flicking through the book and comparing it to the first, I can safely say I’m much more satisfied with the quality of photography and shots on High Touch!. If you look at the picture below, you can easily see the difference between the two PBs – while HARUKAs looks like it was shot under some floodlight, HT! has clearer and crisper shots.
HARUKAs up top, HT! on the bottom. So Haru-chan looks pasty-faced and in desperate need of Vitamin D in one shot, sun-kissed and healthy in the other. Make what you will of the photography…
I kind of had an inkling that HT! would be totally different from HARUKAs when I saw that Gakken were publishing it instead of Seigura. The first photobook was littered with out-takes from older Seiyuu Grandprix features and really only had a few shots that got the pulses racing and I was pretty sure the ante would be upped this time as Gakken publishes many idol photobooks and also swimsuit mags. The pic above is a scan that has been doing the rounds on the interwebs and it’s pretty lol to read how many people rushed out to buy copies just by seeing it.
Prior to the PB release, I had read a bunch of interviews with Haru-chan talking about the book and one of them had her apologising for ‘wearing material that covers less than 20% of my body’. That definitely made me grin like a maniac, she sure knows what her fans are like. Kind of reminds me of that little soundbyte during a signing event for her first photobook where she told a fan who was staring intently at her thighs to ‘please look at my face too!’ ^^;
The obvious comparison to be drawn with the PB is to Hirano Aya and her gravure escapades. And Hirano does look good in a bikini…when she puts it on the right way. Obviously has nicer boobs too, since Haruka is flatter than a washboard that’s been run over by a steamroller. I guess where Haru-chan wins is longer limbs (seriously long) and a 6cm height difference, which means her legs look nicer since they stretch on for miles and miles. I think her hips are marginally better (wider) too.
There’s a fair few non-bikini shots actually…in fact Haruka keeps her clothes on more often than not. That might be a disappointment to many, but after the ‘poolside pics’ promised for HARUKAs only amounted to a bunch of… shots of her playing with a ball by the pool, I’d think fans would be rather more pleased with High Touch!.
A few decent close-up head shots. One thing I can say about HT! is that Haruka’s stopped looking like 20 different people, there’s a more consistent feel about the whole package.
Since we’re following a H(aruka) T(omatsu) naming theme, may I kindly suggest the next one be called Humps & Tits Hairy Twat Heavenly Thighs? Yeah.
Honestly though, my favourite shots are the Seijinshiki ones towards the end of the book. They come after the collage of younger Tomatsu pics (boy, does she love her peace signs…) and a special message written to her by her parents, talking about her childhood (good relay runner!).
These, these, these. They’re better than the Seigura ones (the blue kimono).
Really, they are.
Throwing a couple more extra bits into the mix – I picked up the recent issue of FREECELL (Hi Akanishi Jin on the pink cover!) that featured a 10-page Tomatsu spread with well-known photographer Fujishiro Meisa. Fujishiro has a nice little history snapping photos of girls, girls and more girls, including a Milky Hips photo collection of girls mooning in various locations so i was rather interested to see how the shoot would pan out.
Alas no pics of her bare buttcheeks or anything provocative like but, but it was a good opportunity to see how Haru-chan gets treated in a mainstream magazine as opposed to the seiyuu idol bubble. It wasn’t too different from the norm in the end; most of the interview material touched on her role within Sphere, her first album and a bit of chat about her character in Katanagatari.
The photos are merely OK imho, but that’s probably partly because I’d been ogling High Touch! for too long, hah. It’s probably not worth the 900-ish yen admission fee just for the Tomatsu pics, but I paid up for the Mizukawa Asami feature as well so it’s not too bad.
Back to High Touch! then. If you’d already shelled out for the first photobook there’s absolutely no reason not to pick up the new one since it’s about twenty-thousand times better. Unless you like seeing Haruka with all her clothes on, then I can only advise you to err…go seek out something tame (like a dictionary) to read.

there are shots where i doubted if it REALLY WAS Tomatsu Haruka posing on certain pictures… but Toma-chan looks different when she’s styled XD
I thought she looked like a Hirano-Mizuki hybrid in some of the shots actually lol.
i’ll agree with the mizuki part but hirano? well, i’m not against aya h. but i do hope that toma-chan doesn’t get flooded with hate if she’d try following aya’s footsteps in gravure modeling >_<

Kobayashi’s PB was rubbish so I don’t really want to see any more…

@RP: Didn’t Aya actually get implants or something? She was flat as a pancake for a while until her last photo shoot.
PS: Tell Sony I demand to see a similar book for Minako Kotobuki at some point. A Haruchan is ALWAYS fine of course, but we mustn’t let Minachan go unnoticed (since she’s not too shabby herself).

Errr, am I like, the only one not wishing Haruka in a bikini? Yeah sure we get to ogle at the legs at all but frankly I would have preferred skimpy dresses or something.

For a moment my mind blanked out. Then I looked back at the one where Haruka is holding a coffee cup. Maybe she does look a bit like Mizuki and Hirano morphed together… maybe not?

Haha. Anything that originates from 2ch is 120% likely to be rubbish, but it wasn’t so long ago that Kishow was linked to Hirano so blah. I’ve heard more rumours linking Haru-chan to that actor…
