Continuing the Sphere series is a brief look at the background story of each of the girls, plus as much as I can give you about the personalities behind the faces.
Music Ray’n is a notoriously secretive agency, so not a whole lot is known about the girls and their private lives. These are all pieces of information picked up over the years from magazine interviews, radio shows and blog posts that I’ve merely reordered to make for palatable reading. All of this in the public domain (albeit in Japanese) so no, I don’t have any insider scoop on the girls or where they live or what they had for breakfast yesterday. Actually scratch that, I know there’s a 60% chance that Haruka ate yude tamago from Family Mart for breakfast yesterday.

I like Sphere.
Scratch that, I love Sphere. But you didn’t have to be a rocket scientist to figure that one out.
Despite that, I have never written a post specifically about Sphere (or maybe I have, I don’t quite recall). So to correct this horrible statistic I have written what amounts to a thesis, which will be split into various parts to allow easier digestion. I guess you could say this is for the fans with a long attention span who would like to know about the group’s history and all that jazz. Be warned that a lot of this will come with a Tomatsu Haruka bias.

It’s been raining non-stop since afternoon, and I went to dinner at a Japanese restaurant. I though I’d mention random things like this to prepare you for how randomly random the rest of this post is.

The most anticipated release of the year for many a seiyuu/anisong fan has leaked all over the internets ahead of its 07/07 release. I really wasn’t planning to listen or review it before the date itself but after prodding from various corners for my opinion (I don’t even know what it’s worth, really), now’s as good a time as any…especially given that I’m not planning to procure a physical copy for myself.

Spring over, summer here. It’s traditionally a slow season but last year offered up small delights in the form of TaiYaki, Manimani, CANAAN and Bakemonogatari so I’m hopeful of rooting something out to while away the days until Bakuman and Ika-musume arrive in the autumn. Couple of things I’ve got my eye on then, but quickly scanning through what’s available (discarding OVAs and movies):

People go on and on about ‘that was the worst season of anime I’ve seen over the last x years!’ or ‘next season is going to suck, again!’ but I’ve learnt to keep my mouth shut now that I have, or am on course to finish off 6 currently-airing shows from the winter and spring combined. That’s a personal record high for me in these 10 years I guess!

There have been mutterings, there have been silly tests and finally we’re done (with tons of bugs intact!) with our latest experiment – a chat room based on Drrr!! and modified by yours truly. Like all our other ventures (the Chihara Minori fansite immediately springs to mind), there was no real motive nor purpose beyond trying to prove that we can actually get things done if we pull our thumbs out of our arses. Naturally it’s done for the lulz and we’re not expecting any payoff from it.

I often get asked which seiyuu’s blogs I read, or which ones I find the most interesting.
Obviously there’s no concrete answer to that, with the old adage ‘one man’s meat is another man’s poison’ floating readily to mind. My own choice of seiyuu blog subscription doesn’t have any sort of pattern to it, in fact I tend to automatically subscribe to seiyuu who writes a blog and only remove them later if they’re boring, dead or spam too much.

Nakajima Megumi (Mamegu for short henceforth) is one of those Marmite seiyuu, with as many haters as there are fans. It’s remarkable to note that she has the second-highest number of anti threads on 2ch (after Hirano Aya), especially when she’s been in the business for less than 3 years. The usual ゴリ押し (forcefully promoting & pushing) accusations that plague people like Aya and Tomatsu Haruka have generated a lot of ill-will towards her – as they say, the more popular the person is, the more haters they have.
I myself am fairly netural on Mamegu – I was never into Macross so all the insults tended to fly unnoticed over my head. Still, her musical output since Ranka has been uneven in terms of quality so I went into I love you not really knowing what to expect. Time to find out how the album fares, methinks.
